Srinagar : IGP Kashmir V.K. Birdi chaired a comprehensive crime review meeting at PCR Kashmir on Monday, reviewing the overall law and order situation and progress under the NashaMukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan. The meeting was attended by all range DIGs, district SSPs, JDP ZPHQ and other senior officers.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) on Thursday reviewed crime in entire Kashmir zone, with district Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) presenting updates on efforts to combat criminal activities. Key discussions included the status of case disposals, issues related to the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), as well as the handling of absconders and other offenses. The review also covered preventive actions under various laws and the progress of pending inquest proceedings. The IGP commended the district units for their ongoing efforts but emphasized the necessity of enhancing the quality of investigations and improving conviction rates, particularly in narcotics and terrorism-related cases. He reviewed the implementation of the NashaMukt Abhiyan, focusing on enforcement actions such as the attachment of properties linked to drug proceeds and the arrest of drug peddlers. The effectiveness of awareness campaigns and anti-drug initiatives was also assessed, with directives to intensify efforts to dismantle drug networks. In terms of security, the IGP instructed officers to bolster night patrolling and area domination in vulnerable locations. He reaffirmed Police’s commitment to maintain peace, highlighting the importance of transparency, accountability, and the timely resolution of cases.
