Says “Long wait of decades coming to an end on 16th, 17th, 18th April”

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that India’s Nari Shakti has reached new heights through their hard work, courage and confidence. He urged everyone to come together to empower Women by expanding opportunities.
Addressing the Nari Shakti Vandan Sammelan in New Delhi today, PM Modi said that India is going to take one of the biggest decisions of the 21st century, and this decision is dedicated to women’s empowerment. He said the Parliament is on the verge of creating a new history, one that will fulfil the aspirations of the past and the future. Modi said, from the State Legislative Assemblies to the Parliament of the country, the long wait of decades is coming to an end on the 16th, 17th, and 18th of this month. He said, in 2023, in the newly constructed Parliament building, the government took the first step in the form of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam so that it could be implemented in time.

Prime Minister Modi stressed the need to provide reservations for women in the democratic structure, as women’s participation strengthens the country’s democracy. He said that from the freedom struggle to the decisions of the Constituent Assembly, Indian women have made immense contributions to laying the foundations of independent India. He added that wherever women have held positions in the country, from the President to the Prime Minister, they have created their own unique legacies. He said they have enhanced both the dignity and pride of the country. The Prime Minister said that the Panchayati Raj institutions are a remarkable example of women’s leadership. Mr Modi stated that today, over 14 lakh women are successfully serving in local government bodies in India. He highlighted that since 2014, the NDA government has introduced and successfully implemented schemes to support women at every stage of life.

Acknowledging the nationwide enthusiasm among women on this issue, the Prime Minister observed that women across the country are voicing their aspirations about reaching the assemblies and the Lok Sabha. Mr Modi said their dreams have received new wings, and a positive atmosphere has been created in the country. He appealed to all women to maintain their active participation in this entire process and meet their MPs to share their perspectives and expectations. Referring to various studies, the Prime Minister pointed out that when women’s participation in decision-making processes increased, it brought sensitivity to systems.

Speaking on the occasion, Women and Child Development Minister Annapurna Devi said that the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam ensures women’s empowerment, self-respect, and democratic participation. She stated that today, the daughters of the country are becoming the flag bearers of the nation’s development journey. The Minister added that with the vision of women-led development, Indian women are establishing a new identity on the global stage. Mrs Devi further said that although many efforts have been made over the past three decades, it is due to the firm resolve of Prime Minister Modi that this transformation has been turned into reality. She also emphasized that the path to a developed India by 2047 will be paved through the empowerment of women.

On the occasion, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is continuously working to take the country forward. She stated that women in India have witnessed a long journey of struggle to achieve respect and equal rights within their own country. Ms Gupta said that today India is entering an era of Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao, and Beti Badhao. She added that the Prime Minister has framed all policies and schemes by keeping women at the centre of the family. The Chief Minister further said that today, through crores of Jan Dhan accounts, women are being connected to the mainstream of the nation.
