New Delhi/Tehran, Apr 14 (UNI) Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian strongly condemned the insult to Pope Leo by Donald Trump and said desecration of Jesus is not acceptable to any free person.
”His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, I condemn the insult to Your Excellency on behalf of the great nation of Iran, and declare that the desecration of Jesus, the prophet of peace and brotherhood, is not acceptable to any free person. I wish you glory by Allah,” Pezeshkian wrote on X.
His comments came after Trump posted an AI-generated picture of himself on his social media platform showing himself with Papal powers and healing a sick person. Trump had described Pope Leo as ”weak.”
Trump’s AI generated picture invited widespread criticism, some people even calling it ”sacrilege.”
Trump’s insult came after Pope Leo suggested over the weekend that a “delusion of omnipotence” is fuelling the US-Israeli war on Iran.
“Pope Leo is WEAK on Crime, and terrible for Foreign Policy,” Trump said adding, “I don’t want a Pope who thinks it’s OK for Iran to have a Nuclear Weapon.”
Italian politicians across the spectrum showed their solidarity with Leo.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni sent a message of support to the Pope for his peace mission while the leader of the main opposition party, Elly Schlein, was more direct, calling Trump’s attacks “extremely serious.”
