‎New Delhi, April 12 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address a national-level ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Sammelan’ at Vigyan Bhawan on Monday, April 13, where the government is set to spotlight its commitment to strengthening women’s participation in nation-building and governance, a release from his office said on Sunday.
‎The Prime Minister is scheduled to attend the event at around 11 AM and deliver an address highlighting the role of women in India’s development journey. According to the release, the Sammelan will bring together eminent personalities and women achievers from across sectors, including government, academia, science, sports, entrepreneurship, media, social work and culture.
‎The programme is being organised as part of a broader effort to reinforce the importance of women-led development in the vision of “Viksit Bharat 2047.” It will underscore the growing presence of women in leadership roles across multiple levels—from grassroots governance in Panchayats to representation in Parliament—and emphasise the need for greater inclusion in decision-making processes.
‎Officials said the Sammelan will also serve as a platform to highlight the implementation of the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam,’ passed by Parliament in September 2023. The legislation provides for one-third reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies, marking a significant milestone in India’s efforts to enhance gender representation in legislative bodies.
‎“With the focus now shifting towards implementation of women’s reservation across the country, the Sammelan aims to reaffirm the government’s commitment to ensuring greater participation of women in shaping India’s future,” the official release noted.
‎The event comes just days ahead of a special session of Parliament scheduled to begin on April 16, where discussions on operationalising the provisions of the Act are expected to take centre stage.
‎The conference is expected to highlight how women are increasingly driving change across sectors and reaffirm the government’s view of women-led development as a central pillar in achieving the long-term goal of a developed India by 2047. UNI
