GMC Doda organises plantation drive at Village Puneja under ‘One Health’ initiative

Doda :The Department of Community Medicine, Government Medical College (GMC) Doda, organised a plantation drive at Village Puneja in Bhaderwah.

More than 250 trees were planted in collaboration with the Forest Department, Bhaderwah Division. The activity was conducted under the aegis of the ‘One Health’ Programme and the Family Adoption Programme, aiming to promote environmental sustainability and community well-being.

The programme was carried out under the guidance of Principal GMC Doda, Dr. Devraj Dogra and under the direct supervision of the Head of the Department of Community Medicine, Dr. Suresh K. Kotwal. It was also supported by the Divisional Forest Officer, Bhaderwah Division, Davinder Kumar. Students of MBBS Batch 2023–24 actively participated in the drive, showing great enthusiasm and commitment towards environmental conservation.

Faculty members, interns and staff of GMC, along with officials from the Forest Department, contributed significantly to the success of the event. The students were guided by Dr.Walied K. Balwan (Assistant Professor), Dr. Imran Zaffer (Senior Resident) and Dr. Waseem Ahmed (Demonstrator), who mentored them on the importance of the ‘One Health’ approach, emphasizing the connection between human health and the environment.

The programme was efficiently coordinated by the Department of Community Medicine with active support from healthcare workers and field staff, including Farhat Mehta (CHO), Shahid Saleem (MSW), Shahzad Manhas (MSW) and Sudesh Singh (Health Inspector). The Forest Department’s cooperation ensured smooth execution of the drive, reflecting GMC Doda’s continued commitment to community engagement, environmental conservation and holistic health promotion.
