Budgam launches 100-Day Nasha Mukht Abhiyan with strong call for collective action

DC calls for intensified fight against Drug Menace

BUDGAM, APRIL 11: District Administration Budgam today kickstarted the UT-wide 100 Days Intensive Nasha Mukht Abhiyan, with a strong resolve to eliminate drug abuse and promote a healthier, drug-free society.

In Budgam, the programme was formally inaugurated by  Deputy Commissioner Budgam, Athar Aamir Khan, along with SSP Budgam Hariprasad KK, at the Drug De-Addiction Centre Budgam, in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare, District Information Centre Budgam, Health Department, and Police Department Budgam.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner highlighted the critical importance of a unified and sustained effort to tackle the growing drug menace. He stated that the campaign is not merely an awareness initiative but a comprehensive approach combining prevention, enforcement, treatment, and rehabilitation.

The DC emphasized that drug abuse poses a serious threat to the social fabric, particularly affecting the youth, and called upon all stakeholders including parents, teachers, civil society, and community leaders to actively participate in the Abhiyan.

He underscored the need for early intervention, continuous counselling, and community-based support systems to help affected individuals reintegrate into society.

Reiterating the administration’s commitment, the DC said that this campaign spreads awareness, ensures strict enforcement, and provides treatment and rehabilitation.

The DC stressed that enforcement agencies have been directed to intensify efforts against drug trafficking networks, while healthcare institutions are being strengthened to provide accessible and effective de-addiction services.

He also appreciated the coordinated efforts of all departments in ensuring the successful launch of this drive.

Following the inaugural session, the Deputy Commissioner inspected various sections of the Drug De-Addiction Centre Budgam, taking stock of the facilities, treatment mechanisms, and rehabilitation services being provided to the patients. He interacted with the staff and emphasized the need for compassionate care, professional counselling, and sustained follow-up for successful recovery outcomes.

On the occasion , the SSP also spoke about the various steps taken by Police administration Budgam to curb this menace and to bring the paddlers behind the bars.

Later, the DC, along with SSP Budgam, and other senior officers, led a plantation drive at Boys Higher Secondary School Budgam, symbolizing a commitment towards a healthier environment and a drug-free future.

Addressing students and participants, the DC spoke extensively about the dangers of drug abuse and urged the youth to stay away from harmful substances and act as ambassadors of change in society.

SSP Budgam, in his address, highlighted the crucial role of society in combating drug abuse. He emphasized the importance of community participation in identifying drug peddlers and supporting victims in their recovery journey. He reiterated that the police department is committed to strict action against those involved in drug trafficking and appealed to the public to cooperate in this mission.

The programme was attended by ADC Budgam, Joint Director Planning, CEO, CMO, District Information Officer, District Social Welfare Officer, ACD, BDO Budgam, and other senior officers of the district.

The launch of the 100-day intensive campaign marks a significant step towards a coordinated, mission-mode approach to eradicate drug abuse and ensure a safer, healthier future for the people of Budgam.
