Srinagar : An awareness programme titled “Say No to Drugs” was held at Boys Middle School (BMS) Kaloosa to combat the increasing issue of drug abuse among youth.
The event was organized by Hilal Ahmad Reshi, Coordinator of the IEC initiative, in partnership with the Municipal Council Bandipora. It featured participation from various IEC-nominated officials, the school’s Headmaster, teaching staff, community workers, and a significant number of students. During the programme, speakers addressed the concerning rise in substance abuse and its detrimental effects on young individuals, emphasizing that drug addiction harms physical health, mental stability, decision-making, and social relationships. Students were informed about the negative consequences of addiction, including poor academic performance, emotional distress, and long-term health issues. The initiative underscored the critical role of awareness in prevention, highlighting that many youths succumb to addiction due to peer pressure, curiosity, and insufficient guidance. Officials encouraged students to remain vigilant and make informed choices to protect their futures. They were urged to engage in positive activities such as focusing on education, participating in sports, and upholding strong moral values. The importance of teachers in shaping young minds and raising awareness about social issues was also acknowledged. The Headmaster and staff expressed their support for the initiative and encouraged students to disseminate the message within their communities.
