Iran threatens to pull out of ceasefire agreement with US unless Israel doesn’t stop its attacks on Lebanon against Hezbollah

Tehran, Apr 8 (UNI) Iran has threatened to pull out of the ceasefire agreement reached with the US, if Israel continues its unrelenting attacks on Lebanon, reports the IRGC-backed semi-official Tasnim news agency, citing an anonymous “senior security source.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday had clarified that Tel Aviv did not consider its war with the Iran-sponsored Hezbollah Islamist militia in Lebanon to be part of the US-Iran ceasefire, the 10-point Iranian proposal that President Trump called a “workable basis on which to negotiate” when he announced the deal, which does include that parallel conflict,

However, as per an English translated version of a statement by Iran’s Supreme National Security Council posted online by Tasnim, the 10 points also include “stopping the war on all fronts, including against the heroic Lebanese Islamic resistance[Hezbollah].”

Due to the Israeli stance on its conflict with the Hezbollah, which identifies it as a separate conflict, Tehran threatening to exit the deal said that it was “assessing the possibility of exiting the deal should the Israeli regime persist in its breaches.

“Israel has launched brutal attacks on Lebanon since this morning, flagrantly violating the agreement,” Tasnim said.

Israel has been at war with Hezbollah for years, but is noted to have significantly ramped up its operations, since the war launched on February 28, with Lebanese officials claiming that more than 1,500 people have been killed, including about 130 children, by the IDF’s operations.

Lebanese officials further said that Tel Aviv’s relentless attacks against the Islamist militia have led to the displacement of tens of thousands of people across a vast swath of southern Lebanon.

Israel, for its part has justified its approach, warning that it would eliminate all

elements which pose a danger to its national security without respite. Defence Minister Israel Katz said last month that Israeli forces will occupy parts of southern Lebanon even after the war, and that residents will not be allowed to return to their homes until the safety of Israeli citizens can be guaranteed.
