Srinagar : A youth from Pattan area of Baramulla has been detained in Saudi Arabia, with no official communication received by his family or employer since his arrest last month, raising serious concerns over his safety and legal status.

The youth, Amjad Ali Bhat of Gund Ibrahim village, was working as a Nurse Specialist in Dammam with a Saudi-based medical firm. He was reportedly detained by Saudi Civil Defence Forces on March 25. Since then, there has been no confirmed information regarding his whereabouts or the charges against him, leaving his family in distress.

The detention is believed to have followed a social media post described as a tribute to Ali Hosseini Khamenei, though authorities have not formally communicated any charges.

Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) has written to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, seeking urgent intervention.

The association has urged the Ministry of External Affairs to take up the matter with Saudi authorities and ensure immediate consular access, legal assistance, and clarity on his detention. It stated that the youth has no known involvement in any unlawful activity and has been working abroad to support his family.

Separately, Dr Mohammad Momin Khan, Vice President of the All India Medical Students Association (AIMSA), has also sought urgent intervention from the MEA, highlighting the prolonged lack of communication with the detained individual. He said the absence of any official information regarding his condition or legal status has caused immense distress to the family.

Dr Khan urged the MEA and the Indian Embassy in Riyadh to immediately establish contact with the detained youth and ensure his safety and well-being. AIMSA has also extended support to the family and called for swift diplomatic engagement to resolve the matter.
