Beijing, Apr 2 (UNI) China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a telephonic conversation with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell Karas and discussed escalating tensions in the Middle East and the need for strengthened China-EU cooperation.
Karas praised China’s proactive diplomatic efforts in the region, particularly its recent peace initiative with Pakistan, while both sides underscored the importance of global stability and navigating an increasingly volatile international landscape.
Though the EU is not directly involved in the ongoing conflict, Karas noted that the EU has been affected by the situation and expressed hopes for a rapid de-escalation and the resumption of dialogue. He also reaffirmed the EU’s support for the UN’s humanitarian operations and emphasized the importance of ensuring the Strait of Hormuz remains open for global shipping.
