Traffic movement partially restored

RAMBAN, APRIL 06: Deputy Commissioner Ramban Mohammad Alyas Khan on Monday monitored road clearance operations after a massive landslide struck NH-44 between Karol and Chanderkote  . The landslide was triggered last night due to heavy rainfall in the area.

SSP Traffic Raja Adil Hameed and officers from Police and Civil Administration were present on the occasion.

The Deputy Commissioner supervised the operation at the site and directed the concerned agencies to ensure coordinated and timely action. Acting swiftly, men and machinery of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) were pressed into service on a war footing to clear the debris and restore traffic movement.

With prompt response of the Deputy Commissioner and the active involvement of all stakeholders, traffic movement was partially restored through one tube, while work is in progress on the second tube of the highway. Stranded vehicles were also moved with due precautions.

The Deputy Commissioner emphasized the need for constant monitoring of vulnerable points along the highway and instructed officials to remain on high alert. He also appreciated the efforts of field teams, Traffic Police, District Police and NHAI personnel for their swift and dedicated response.

The district administration advised drivers and motorists to exercise caution while travelling on the affected stretch. Stress was laid on strictly following traffic and weather advisories issued by the authorities. People have also been urged to avoid unnecessary travel as shooting stones are occurring intermittently.
