Srinagar, Apr 3: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Iltija Mufti on Friday launched a sharp attack on the National Conference (NC), accusing it of pursuing “inconsistent and duplicitous” policies, particularly on Jammu and Kashmir’s hydroelectric projects.
In a post on X, Iltija alleged that despite being aware of the region’s acute electricity woes, the NC has repeatedly “bartered away” key hydroelectric assets.
She claimed that during his tenure as Chief Minister in 1996, Farooq Abdullah handed over eight power projects to National Hydroelectric Power Corporation at “throwaway prices,” treating them as private assets rather than public property.
“Because of this decision, people of J&K continue to buy electricity generated within their own state at exorbitant prices,” she said.
Iltija further alleged that in his current tenure, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has again handed over two more power projects to NHPC.
She also accused the NC of reneging on its electoral promises, stating that the party had pledged to reclaim previously transferred projects but instead opted to hand over additional ones after coming to power.
