Bandipora :Krishi Vigyan Kendra Bandipora-1 organized a Field Day on Oilseeds under the Cluster Frontline Demonstration programme on Brown Sarson, variety Shalimar Sarson-2, at a farmer’s field in the village of Asham and adjoining areas. The programme focused on crop performance and yield potential under field conditions.

The programme was conducted under the guidance of the Head, KVK Bandipora-1, Dr Tariq Sultan. He highlighted the performance of the demonstrated variety in terms of vigorous growth, uniform crop stand, and higher yield prospects. He stressed that the adoption of improved varieties along with scientific crop management practices can significantly enhance productivity and farmers’ income.

Dr Tahir Saleem, SMS Vegetable Science, demonstrated the crop in the field and explained important aspects related to crop growth, flowering, and pod formation. He guided farmers on critical practices at this stage, including nutrient management and timely care to achieve better grain filling and higher yield.

Dr Bilal Ahmad Zargar, SMS Agricultural Extension, interacted with the farmers and emphasized the role of frontline demonstrations in showcasing the actual yield potential of improved technologies under farmers’ field conditions. He encouraged farmers to adopt these practices on a larger scale for improving oilseed production in the district.

Dr Shabnum Mumtaz SMS Entomology, also addressed the participants and provided valuable guidance on crop care, pest and disease management, and necessary precautions during the maturity stage to avoid yield losses.

During the programme, farmers and students participated actively and observed the crop performance in the field. The demonstrated crop of Brown Sarson-2 exhibited healthy growth, profuse flowering, and promising yield potential. Farmers raised queries which were addressed on the spot by the experts.

The programme created awareness about improved oilseed cultivation practices and strengthened farmers’ confidence in adopting high yielding varieties and scientific methods for enhancing productivity and profitability.
