Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir Lok Bhavan on Monday celebrated Rajasthan Foundation Day and marked the upcoming Odisha Day (UtkalaDibasa) with a cultural programme in Jammu, highlighting the country’s rich diversity and shared heritage.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, who addressed the gathering, extended greetings to the people of Rajasthan and Odisha and underscored the role of both states in shaping India’s civilisational and cultural ethos.
Describing Rajasthan as a “land of enlightened giants,” the Lieutenant Governor said the state has historically contributed to social upliftment and spiritual thought. He also highlighted its linguistic diversity, noting that languages such as Hindi, Marwari, Hadoti, Mewari, Mewati, and Punjabi have enriched its literary and cultural traditions.
“Rajasthan stands as a treasure trove of spirituality, valour, and folk arts, with its history deeply rooted in sacrifice and heroism,” he said, referring to the cultural legacy shaped across the Aravalli hills and the Thar Desert.
The Lieutenant Governor also paid tribute to Bhakti-era saint Meerabai, describing her as a symbol of devotion and surrender whose teachings continue to inspire generations.
Highlighting Odisha’s legacy, Sinha said the state represents a continuum of India’s spiritual and cultural heritage from ancient times to the present. Referring to the historic Kalinga War, he said Odisha has played a defining role in shaping India’s philosophical and cultural trajectory.
He noted that the traditions, folk arts, and contributions of both Rajasthan and Odisha have strengthened the spirit of “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat” and reinforced the idea of unity in diversity.
The event was attended by officials, students, faculty members from various educational institutions, and members of the Rajasthan and Odisha communities residing in Jammu and Kashmir.
