Jammu,:General Manager, Northern Railway, Rajesh Kumar Pandey conducted a comprehensive inspection of the Katra–Srinagar–Baramulla rail section over two days, reviewing safety standards, infrastructure readiness, and passenger amenities across the strategically significant corridor.
The inspection began on March 29 from Katra to Srinagar and continued on March 30 from Budgam to Baramulla. The General Manager was accompanied by Divisional Railway Manager, Jammu Division, Vivek Kumar, along with senior railway officials.
During the visit, Pandey assessed the progress and operational preparedness of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project, a key national infrastructure initiative aimed at connecting the Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country.
A major focus of the inspection was on safety, particularly in view of the region’s challenging terrain. The General Manager carried out a detailed review of railway tracks, bridges, and tunnels, stressing the need for strict adherence to safety protocols.
He also inspected several railway stations in the Kashmir Valley, including Budgam Railway Station, which is being developed under the Amrit Bharat Scheme. Passenger amenities and facilities at stations were reviewed to ensure improved travel experience.
Pandey visited key infrastructure projects such as the Anji Khad Bridge and the Chenab Bridge, examining maintenance and operational protocols of these engineering landmarks.
The General Manager also inspected the Anantnag Goods Terminal, highlighting its importance as a major freight hub in the Valley.
During interactions with officials, he reviewed upcoming railway projects and directed that all pending works be completed within stipulated timelines, with no compromise on safety standards.
The inspection is seen as a crucial step towards ensuring seamless rail connectivity between the Kashmir Valley and the rest of India. Pandey reiterated Northern Railway’s commitment to delivering safe, efficient, and high-quality rail services in the region.
