US President Donald J. Trump on Monday said that the United States is engaged in “serious discussions” with what he termed a “new, and more reasonable, regime” in Iran to end ongoing military operations.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump claimed that “great progress” has been made in negotiations, expressing optimism that a deal would be reached soon.
However, he issued a stern warning, stating that if an agreement is not finalised shortly, and if the Strait of Hormuz is not immediately reopened, the United States would respond with overwhelming force.
Trump said Washington could “blow up and completely obliterate” Iran’s key infrastructure, including electric generating plants, oil wells and Kharg Island, which he claimed have not yet been targeted.
He added that such action would be carried out in retribution for American soldiers and others allegedly killed during what he described as Iran’s 47-year “reign of terror.”
