Srinagar : Police on Friday said that it has seized 12 vehicles for illegal mining and transportation activities across Ganderbal and Shopian districts.
In a statement issued here on Friday Police said that in Ganderbal, police seized nine tractors operating in the jurisdictions of Police Station Kangan and Police Post Nagbal. The vehicles were found involved in illegal extraction and transportation of mining material without valid authorization. The vehicles were seized on the spot, and the matter was referred to the Geology and Mining Department, which imposed fines under relevant provisions of law.
In a similar action Shopian, police seized two dumpers and an L&T machine engaged in unauthorized mining activities in the Rambiara Nallah. A case under FIR No. 37/2026 has been registered at Police Station Shopian, and further investigation is underway. In its statement Police reiterated its commitment to curb illegal mining and people to cooperate in protecting natural resources.
