Jammu :In a major push towards agricultural diversification and high-value farming, a State-level event on commercial floriculture was organized at KVK R.S. Pura, SKUAST-Jammu, drawing enthusiastic participation from farmers, scientists and officials from various allied departments.

The programme aimed to promote commercial floriculture as a profitable and sustainable livelihood option, while creating awareness about modern scientific cultivation practices and Union government welfare schemes.

The event was organized under the guidance and support of Director Floriculture Jammu, Vivek Modi.

Director Horticulture Jammu, Gul Sayeed, who attended the event, highlighted the growing importance of floriculture in enhancing farmers’ income. He emphasized the need for adopting modern technologies and scientific practices to fully harness the sector’s potential.

The event was also graced by K.K. Sharma, Former Director Floriculture, Harcharan Pal Singh, Former Director Floriculture Kashmir, Ashwani Kumar, Joint Director Agriculture Jammu and Dr. Puneet Choudhary, Chief Scientist & Head, KVK R.S. Pura, who shared valuable insights on promoting scientific floriculture and strengthening farmers’ livelihoods.

Experts and scientists from SKUAST-Jammu conducted detailed technical sessions, focusing on improved cultivation practices, efficient crop management and innovative technologies in floriculture. They stressed the role of scientific interventions in enhancing productivity, quality and profitability.

A key highlight of the programme was the exhibition of stalls by various departments, showcasing schemes related to floriculture, agriculture, animal husbandry, sheep husbandry, social welfare and the PM Surya Ghar initiative. These stalls served as knowledge hubs, providing farmers with information on financial assistance, subsidies and modern farming support systems.

Farmers actively interacted with experts and officials, seeking guidance on crop diversification, scientific methods and government-backed schemes. The interactive sessions facilitated meaningful knowledge exchange and encouraged farmers to explore floriculture as a viable income-generating enterprise.

The event concluded with a strong appeal to farmers to adopt modern, technology-driven practices and effectively utilize government schemes to enhance their livelihoods and contribute to the sustainable growth.
