Distt admin Shopian commemorates 150 Years of ‘Vande Mataram’

Inaugural prog held at GDC Shopian, Week-long Campaign to continue till March 30, 2026

Shopian :In connection with the commemoration of 150 years of the national song “VandeMataram”, a week-long series of programmes began Monday in District Shopian under the Special Phase scheduled from 23rd to 30th March 2026.

The inaugural programme was held at GDC Shopian and was presided over by the ADC Shopian, Dr. Zakir Hussain Faaz.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Education Officer Shopian, Bashir Ahmed Shah, highlighted the profound historical significance of VandeMataram, stating that the national song has served as a powerful source of inspiration for generations of freedom fighters and patriots.

He emphasized that the song embodies the spirit of sacrifice, unity, and national pride, and continues to instill a sense of responsibility and patriotism among the youth.

Earlier, Chief Executive Officer, Municipal Council Shopian, Suhail Ahmed, in his inaugural address, underscored the importance of such initiatives in fostering civic responsibility and national consciousness among citizens.

He remarked that commemorative programmes like these not only celebrate the nation’s rich heritage but also strengthen the collective resolve towards unity, harmony, and progress.

The programme featured vibrant cultural performances presented by students from various educational institutions including New Green Land Higher Secondary School, JNV Aglar, and Gujjar &Bakerwal Hostel Shopian.

The performances, comprising patriotic songs and singing of national song beautifully reflected the spirit of nationalism and unity, captivating the audience.

On the conclusion of the programme, certificates were distributed among the participating students in recognition of their commendable performances and valuable contribution to the successful conduct of the event.

Among others, Principal GDC Shopian, Prof. Tariq Ahmed, District Information Officer, Shopian Showkat Hussain Ganie, officials from the Education Department, and a large number of students, were present on the occasion.
