Kathua: Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Rajesh Sharma, who is also the District Election Officer Monday chaired a preparatory meeting with Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) to review and streamline arrangements for the upcoming Summary Revision of Panchayat E-Rolls 2026.

At the outset, the District Election Officer took a comprehensive review of the preparedness of the field machinery and emphasized adherence to the prescribed guidelines and timelines issued by the State Election Commission. He stressed the importance of ensuring accuracy, transparency and inclusiveness in the electoral rolls.

The meeting deliberated in detail on key aspects including availability of Assured Minimum Facilities (AMF) at polling stations, proper documentation and verification of forms and effective implementation of SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation) activities to enhance voter awareness and participation.

Threadbare discussions were also held on timely transfer of votes, removal of duplications and inclusion of eligible voters, particularly focusing on left-out and newly eligible electors. The DC directed the AEROs to ensure that all claims and objections are processed strictly as per rules and within stipulated timelines.

Highlighting the significance of grassroots-level verification, the DC instructed for conducting intensive household surveys to ensure updation and purification of electoral rolls. He also emphasized the role of designated observers in maintaining transparency and overseeing the revision process.

The meeting further decided to organise special camps on saturdays and sundays at designated locations to facilitate maximum public participation and ease of submission of forms. The officers were directed to ensure wide publicity of these camps through IEC and SVEEP activities.

Rajesh Sharma exhorted all officers to work in close coordination and with a sense of responsibility to ensure that the Summary Revision process is carried out in a free, fair and error-free manner.

Among others, the meeting was attended by Deputy DEO Kathua Nagesh Singh, ACP Ajeet Kumar, all AEROs, DLMT and concerned election officials.
