Barmamulla| March, 16:Social Welfare Department (SWD), Baramulla organized a meaningful Programme on Productive Ageing aimed at empowering senior citizens and encouraging them to lead active, creative, and socially engaged lives.
The programme was held under the National Action Plan for Senior Citizens (NAPSrC), a national initiative designed to enhance the well-being and participation of elderly citizens in society.
The event focused on promoting productive engagement among senior citizens through various skill-based and culturally enriching activities. Participants were encouraged to take part in activities such as handicrafts, basket weaving, cloth making, skill sharing, community participation, and cultural expression, enabling them to remain active while preserving traditional knowledge and craftsmanship.
Officials from the department highlighted the invaluable role of senior citizens in society. They emphasized that the elderly are not only the custodians of experience and wisdom but also an important source of guidance for younger generations.
Through such initiatives, the department aims to create opportunities for senior citizens to share their skills, talents, and life experiences, thereby strengthening community bonds and promoting intergenerational learning.
The programme also served as a platform for interaction and social engagement among participants, helping foster a sense of belonging and purpose. By encouraging meaningful participation in creative and productive activities, the initiative seeks to enhance the physical, emotional, and social well-being of senior citizens.
