Students, scholars, faculty engage in discussion on emerging catalytic technologies

Srinagar : The Department of Physics at National Institute of Technology Srinagar on Monday organised an invited lecture on “Development of Sustainable Heterogeneous Catalysts for Energy and Environmental Applications” in collaboration with the Indian National Young Academy of Science (INYAS) under its outreach activity.

The lecture was delivered by Professor Venkata Krishnan, a prominent scientist from the Indian Institute of Technology Mandi . Speaking on the occasion Prof Venkata Krishnan highlighted  the development of sustainable heterogeneous catalysts and their critical role in addressing global energy and environmental challenges. The event, held at the High-Tech Lecture Hall, attracted a diverse audience, including senior faculty, undergraduate and postgraduate students, and PhD scholars from the Departments of Physics and Chemistry. Professor Krishnan emphasized the importance of innovative catalytic materials in clean energy production, environmental remediation, and green chemical processes. He discussed current research trends in catalyst design, surface chemistry, and nanostructured materials, highlighting their potential to enhance energy efficiency and mitigate environmental pollution. He encouraged young researchers to adopt interdisciplinary approaches in their work, aiming for contributions that support sustainable technological advancements. Director of NIT Srinagar, Professor Binod Kumar Kanaujia, reaffirmed the institute’s commitment to fostering advanced research and collaboration in emerging scientific fields. He noted that lectures by distinguished scientists enrich students’ academic experiences and inspire innovative research addressing real-world energy and environmental issues. Registrar Professor Atikur Rehman echoed this sentiment, stating that such academic engagements bolster the research culture and encourage exploration of interdisciplinary research avenues. The event was coordinated by Dr. Vijay Kumar, who welcomed attendees and underscored the significance of outreach lectures in promoting scientific engagement. The session concluded with a vote of thanks from Professor M. A. Shah, who presented a book to Professor Krishnan as a token of appreciation. An interactive question-and-answer session followed, allowing students and scholars to engage with the speaker on various topics related to catalytic science and sustainable energy technologies.
