Srinagar :District Social Welfare Office (DSWO) Srinagar organized a special Senior Citizens Programme under the Atal VayoAbhyuday Yojana (AVYAY) scheme today at Kashmir Haat Srinagar.
The programme aimed to sensitize and empower senior citizens by providing information on various welfare schemes, health, legal rights, financial literacy, and overall well-being. The event witnessed about 250 participants of Senior Citizens and Youth.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, District Social Welfare Officer Srinagar, reiterated the department’s commitment to safeguarding the dignity, rights, and welfare of the elderly.
Ruqaya Ashraf, District Mission Coordinator, highlighted the objectives of the programme and emphasized the importance of creating a supportive environment for senior citizens.
Nazia Wani, Tehsil Social Welfare Officer (South), delivered an informative session on various departmental schemes available for senior citizens.
Dr.Saqiba, Medical Officer, spoke about health awareness for senior citizens and shared valuable insights on maintaining physical and mental well-being in old age.
Zainab, Lawyer at OSC Srinagar, conducted a legal awareness session focusing on the rights and legal protections available to elderly citizens. Financial literacy and banking awareness was addressed by Riyaz Ahmad, Financial Literacy Counsellor from J&K Bank.
A theme-based cultural performance was also presented, which was well received by the audience. A yoga and wellness session was also conducted. The role of physical activity and mindfulness in promoting a healthy lifestyle among senior citizens was emphasized.
The programme was attended by the renowned Kashmiri poet and social activist, Zareef Ahmad Zareef, who appreciates the initiatives taken by the department for the welfare of senior citizens.
On the occasion, several eminent senior citizens were felicitated in recognition of their contributions to society.
The programme concluded with appreciation for the participation of senior citizens and resource persons, reaffirming the commitment of the Department of Social Welfare Srinagar to continue organizing such awareness initiatives for the empowerment and well-being of elderly citizens.
