Pulwama :: Ahead of the forthcoming festival of Eid‑ul‑Fitr and acting on the directions of Deputy Commissioner Pulwama, Dr Basharat Qayoom, joint teams of Revenue, Food Safety, Legal Metrology, Consumer Affairs & Public Distribution (CAPD) and Horticulture today conducted extensive market checking across various areas of the district to ensure strict adherence to quality standards and safeguard consumer interests.
In Rajpora and Shadimarg, the teams carried out inspections of various business establishments. During the drive, several shops including food outlets, meat shops, bakeries, medical stores, fertilizer shops and other establishments dealing in essential commodities were thoroughly inspected.
The inspection focused on maintaining hygiene and quality of food items, verification of expiry dates of products, regulation of prices, availability of essential commodities and compliance with the prescribed government rules and regulations.
During the drive, violations were detected in some establishments and spot fines amounting to Rs. 3,000 were imposed on the erring shopkeepers. Expired and substandard items found during the inspections were seized and destroyed on the spot to prevent their sale to the public.
Meanwhile, a special market checking drive was also conducted in Kakapora focusing particularly on meat sellers and bakery units. The drive was carried out by the concerned enforcement team during which an amount of Rs. 16,000 was realised as fine from erring Food Business Operators for violations of prescribed norms.
The authorities urged all vendors to adhere strictly to the prescribed norms and guidelines to ensure hygiene, cleanliness and public health safety and warned them of strict action against any malpractice.
