Pending terror cases to be reopened to ensure justice for victim families

Property seized from terror-affected families will be restored

Srinagar: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday handed over appointment letters to 27 next of kin (NoKs) of terrorism victims at Lok Bhavan in Srinagar.
Appointment letters were also provided to 22 next of kin of deceased government employees under the Jammu & Kashmir Rehabilitation Assistance Scheme–2022 and SRO-43.
Reiterating his commitment to justice for terror-affected families, the Lieutenant Governor said that pending cases related to terrorism victims will be reopened to ensure perpetrators are held accountable.
Paying homage to civilian martyrs, Sinha said that for decades the families of innocent victims had waited for justice. He noted that the campaign launched from Baramulla last year has provided these families with support, courage and renewed self-belief.
“Our campaign to deliver justice to terror victims’ families has restored their tomorrow. We have succeeded in dispelling the shadow of injustice and ushering in a new dawn of justice at the doorsteps of affected families. So far, around 400 next of kin have been provided employment, and the effort will continue until every eligible family receives justice,” he said.
The Lieutenant Governor said the initiative was not merely an administrative process of filling posts, but a commitment to ensuring that no terror-affected family is forgotten.
“My aim throughout this process is to ensure that no terror-affected family slips through the cracks of neglect. These appointment letters represent true justice, and today’s event stands as its testament,” he added.
Sinha also directed the Principal Secretary Home to conduct a comprehensive review of cases related to property encroachment involving victims of terrorism.
“I have repeatedly affirmed that lands or homes forcibly seized from terror-affected families will be freed and returned. Cases yet to be investigated will receive impartial and transparent probes,” he said.
The Lieutenant Governor further highlighted that the administration is working to rehabilitate victims who have suffered severe injuries or disabilities due to terrorism, including those who have lost their eyesight.
He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, several initiatives have been taken in the past five to six years to build a self-confident and inclusive Jammu and Kashmir rooted in social justice, dignity and equal opportunity.
Calling upon people to maintain unity, Sinha urged citizens to foil attempts by separatist elements to divide society.
“Adhering to the Prime Minister’s mantra of ‘Zero Tolerance towards Terrorism’, the administration, police and security forces are taking decisive action to dismantle terror networks,” he said.
Among those present on the occasion were Principal Secretary Home Chandraker Bharti, Principal Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor Dr Mandeep K. Bhandari, Commissioner Secretary GAD M. Raju, IGP Kashmir V.K. Birdi, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar AkshayLabroo, SSP Srinagar Dr G.V. Sundeep Chakravarthy, Chairman Save Youth Save Future Foundation Wajahat Farooq Bhat, along with senior officials and family members of terror victims.
