National Lok Adalat held at DDC Rajouri; 772 cases settled, ₹1.70 crore compensation realized

Srinagar : The National Lok Adalat pertaining to all types of cases was held today at the District Court Complex Rajouri and in all other courts of District Headquarters Rajouri under the chairmanship of Rajinder Sapru, Chairman District Legal Services Authority.

Three benches were constituted for the Lok Adalat proceedings. The first bench was headed by Rajinder Sapru, assisted by Bindu Khajuria, Advocate and Ajay Gupta, Advocate. The second bench was headed by Javed Rana, Chief Judicial Magistrate Rajouri, assisted by Pradyot Gupta, Assistant Labour Commissioner Rajouri, and Khilat Mehmood Bhat, Advocate.

The third bench was headed by Shama Sharma, Sub-Judge/Secretary District Legal Services Authority Rajouri, assisted by Ms. Shavika Gupta, District Mobile Magistrate Rajouri, and Mr. Shoket Ali, Advocate.

A total of 1,197 cases, including pre-litigation and post-litigation matters, were taken up by the benches, out of which 772 cases were disposed of amicably. An amount of ₹1,70,98,614 (Rupees One Crore Seventy Lakh Ninety Eight Thousand Six Hundred and Fourteen only) was realized as compensation and settlement amount.

From the courts of the Principal District & Sessions Judge Rajouri and the Additional District & Sessions Judge Rajouri, 35 Motor Accident Claim Tribunal (MACT) cases were taken up, out of which 25 cases were settled, and an amount of ₹1,39,65,000 (Rupees One Crore Thirty Nine Lakh Sixty Five Thousand only) was awarded as compensation in these cases.

Similar benches were also constituted at the tehsil level, which were headed by the Presiding Officers of the respective courts.

Representatives from banks, advocates of different insurance companies, members of the Bar, Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs), court staff, litigants and a large number of people participated in the National Lok Adalat, making the initiative successful in promoting amicable settlement of disputes and reducing the pendency of cases.
