India’s Crude Oil Supplies Secure Amid West Asia Tensions: GoI

New Delhi: The Government on Wednesday said India’s crude oil supply remains secure despite tensions affecting shipping routes in West Asia.
Officials from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas said India has diversified its energy imports and now sources crude oil from around 40 countries.
As a result, about 70 percent of India’s crude imports are now routed outside the Strait of Hormuz, compared to 55 percent earlier.
The briefing was held at the National Media Centre, where officials from multiple ministries outlined preparedness measures.
India’s daily crude oil consumption is about 55 lakh barrels, and current procurement volumes exceed what would normally arrive through the Strait of Hormuz during this period.
The government also reported that domestic LPG production has increased by about 25 percent following measures directing refineries to maximise output for household consumption.
Officials said domestic PNG supply and CNG for vehicles will continue to receive full supply, while industries connected to the gas grid will receive about 80 percent of their normal supply.
Authorities also warned against panic booking and hoarding of LPG cylinders, noting that the average delivery cycle remains about 2.5 days.
The government said it is closely monitoring the evolving situation in West Asia while ensuring uninterrupted energy supplies and maritime safety.
