Srinagar :Social Welfare Department (SWD) Srinagar started the first day of a three-day Training Programme for Heads of Institutions (HOIs) and Teachers under the NashaMukht Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA).
The programme is held at the NHM Hall, Old Secretariat Srinagar, with the objective of strengthening awareness and institutional mechanisms to prevent substance abuse among youth.
On an outset, District Social Welfare Office Srinagar Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad Dar briefed HOIs and teachers about importance regarding substance abuse prevention and building the capacity of educational institutions for early identification, counselling, and rehabilitation of individuals affected by drug abuse.
The event witnessed active participation from Heads of Institutions and teachers from various educational institutions across the district. The programme is designed to equip participants with the knowledge and practical skills required to identify early warning signs of drug abuse and provide timely counselling and support to students.
During the programme, a medical expert, Dr.AijazSahaf from IMHANS Srinagar, delivered a comprehensive presentation on the harmful effects of drug abuse, early warning signs, preventive strategies, and the availability of de-addiction facilities. The session highlighted the crucial role educational institutions play in addressing substance abuse and guiding students towards healthier lifestyles.
An interactive Question and Answer session followed, during which participants actively engaged with the expert and raised important queries regarding identification of at-risk students, referral mechanisms, counselling procedures, and community involvement. The expert addressed these concerns in detail, making the session highly informative and impactful for the attendees.
The remaining sessions of the three-day training programme will focus on strengthening counselling skills, developing referral networks, and enhancing collaboration between educational institutions and health agencies to effectively combat substance abuse.
