Srinagar : Police on Saturday said that it has seized nine vehicles and two JCBs in coordination with the Geology and Mining Department,
across Baramulla, Ganderbal, and Shopian.
In a statement issued here on Saturday Police said that in Baramulla, two tractors involved in unauthorized mineral extraction from Dargam Nallah were seized on the spot. The drivers were identified as Faisal Ahmad, son of MohdShafi Khan from Bangdara, and Mehrajudin Mir, S/O Gh Mohammad Mir from Wussan Khoi. Proceedings have been initiated under the relevant provisions of the MMDR Act.
In Ganderbal, two tippers were intercepted transporting illegally extracted material from Nallah Sindh without proper permissions within the jurisdiction of PS Gund. In Shopian, during routine patrolling, a police party from Police Post Turkwangam intercepted a JCB and two dumpers engaged in illegal mining. FIR No. 23/2026 has been registered at Police Station Zainapora, and further investigation is underway. In a similar action another JCB and three tippers involved in unauthorized mineral extraction were intercepted, leading to FIR No. 24/2026 and ongoing investigation. In its statement Police reaffirmed its commitment to protect natural resources and warned that anyone involved in illegal mining will face strict action.
