J&K Police seizes 12 vehicles for illegal extraction, transportation of minerals

Srinagar :  Police on Thursday said that it has seized 12 vehicles in Shopian, Ganderbal and Baramulla districts.

In a statement issued here on Thursday Police said that in Shopian, during routine patrolling, a police party from Police Post Keegam intercepted three tractors engaged in illegal mining activities without mandatory permissions. In this regard FIR No. 27/2026 under relevant provisions of law has been registered at Police Station Shopian besides initiating further investigation. In Ganderbal, Police Post Nagbal conducted a special drive within its jurisdiction and seized three tippers while transporting illegally extracted minor minerals. The vehicles were seized on the spot to prevent further illegal extraction and transportation of minerals. The Department of Geology  and  Mining Department has issued challans against the violators as per the relevant provisions of law.

In Baramulla also  a police party from  Police Post Delina during routine checking at Delina, Baramulla intercepted six tippers carrying sand. During inspection, the drivers of the vehicles were unable to produce valid royalty documents required for lawful transportation of the mineral.  Action has been initiated under Section 21 of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, and further legal proceedings have been taken as per law.

In its statement Police reiterated its firm commitment to safeguard the natural resources and ensure strict legal action against individuals involved in illegal mining activities, appealing people therein to cooperate with by sharing any unlawful practices, assuring therein that identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential besides which stringent action will be taken against violators.
