Jammu: Srinagar Police on Tuesday said it has taken serious cognisance of the circulation of false, fabricated and misleading information by certain news channels, media outlets and individuals on electronic and social media platforms.
In a statement, police alleged that some elements were attempting to spread distorted narratives and unverified content with the intent to incite unrest, disturb public order and create social disharmony.
Describing such misinformation campaigns as a threat to peace and security, police said FIR No. 01/2026 has been registered at the Cyber Police Station under relevant provisions of law.
Several social media profiles have been identified in connection with the case, and further investigation is underway, the statement added.
