New Delhi: ‎Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday spoke with Abdullah II, King of Jordan, conveying India’s deep concern over the evolving security situation in West Asia and reaffirming New Delhi’s support for peace and stability in the region.
‎In a post on X, the Prime Minister said he had a telephonic conversation with King Abdullah II amid escalating tensions across parts of West Asia.
“Spoke with His Majesty King Abdullah II, the King of Jordan. Conveyed our deep concern at the evolving situation in the region,” Modi said. ‎
Reiterating India’s consistent call for de-escalation, he added, “We reaffirm our support for peace, security and the well-being of the people of Jordan.”
‎The Prime Minister also expressed gratitude to the Jordanian leadership for ensuring the safety of Indian nationals residing in the country during the ongoing crisis.
“I thanked him for taking care of the Indian community in Jordan in this difficult hour,” he said. ‎
India and Jordan share warm and historically friendly ties, with cooperation spanning trade, defence, education and cultural exchanges.
Jordan is home to a sizeable Indian community, many of whom are employed in sectors such as healthcare, construction and information technology. ‎
Modi’s outreach to King Abdullah II comes amid heightened regional tensions marked by cross-border strikes and growing fears of wider instability.
India has been actively engaging with leaders across West Asia, underscoring the need for restraint, dialogue and respect for sovereignty while prioritising the safety of its citizens abroad.
‎New Delhi has consistently maintained that restoring calm and preventing further escalation are essential for regional and global stability, particularly given West Asia’s strategic importance to energy security and international trade.
