The programme themed “50 Years of Emergency: Lessons for Indian Democracy” was conducted by faculty, research scholars, and students in a meaningful discourse on the role of youth in shaping democracy. In his keynote address Prof. Farooq Ahmad Mir, Dean of the School of Legal Studies, emphasized the importance of the Youth Parliament as a vital educational tool that fosters democratic values and critical thinking among students. He underscored that democracy is foundational to the Indian constitutional framework and must be actively protected and cherished. He noted that platforms like the Youth Parliament enhance informed debate and critical thinking, thereby reinforcing democratic culture and respect for constitutional values. Dr. Jehirul Islam, Dean of DSW, described the Youth Parliament as a dynamic platform that amplifies young voices and cultivates future leaders, aligning with the national call for nurturing young leaders who are not just beneficiaries but architects of development. The technical session of the Youth Parliament featured a jury comprising esteemed faculty and professionals. Ms. Tulba Rasool from the Department of English won the first prize, while Ms. Tamanna and Ms. Arunima Akral from the Department of Law secured the second and third prizes, respectively.
