G’bal: Omar Abdullah on Tuesday ordered an inquiry into allegations that Kashmiri Muslim students at CT University were forced to vacate their accommodation following a dispute over Sehri and Iftar arrangements during Ramadan.
Talking to reporters during his visit to Ganderbal, the chief minister said the matter would be thoroughly investigated and that he would personally raise it with CM Punjab Bhagwant Mann. He expressed confidence that the Punjab government would ensure the safety and security of students from Jammu and Kashmir studying in the state.
The controversy emerged after students alleged they were threatened with eviction for requesting Sehri and Iftar meal arrangements despite paying regular mess fees. They claimed they faced harassment and administrative pressure after raising the issue.
A 46-second video circulating on social media purportedly shows students gathered outside campus premises after being asked to vacate. While students have accused the university administration of misbehaviour and coercion, there has been no official statement from the institution so far. The incident has sparked debate online, with some calling for reasonable religious accommodation under constitutional guarantees while others expressed differing views.
