Srinagar: Police on Tuesday said that it has seized two tractors and a JCB involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals in Baramulla.
In a statement issued here on Tuesday Police said that a police team from Police Post Palhallan seized two tractors during a patrol in New Colony Palhallan for being involved in the illegal extraction of minerals. The vehicles were confiscated on-site, and legal action initiated under the relevant provisions of the MMRD Act. In a separate operation, a joint team from the Geology & Mining Department and Baramulla Police conducted a surprise inspection in the Kanispora area of District Baramulla and recovered a JCB actively engaged in illegal mineral extraction, which was also seized to prevent further environmental damage. Legal proceedings are underway in accordance with the MMDR Act.
