Digital access suffers as weak signals plague area residents

Srinagar :Residents of Check Duderhama and adjoining areas in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district have expressed serious concern over what they describe as persistently poor mobile network and internet services provided by telecom operator Jio, saying the problem has remained unresolved for several months despite repeated complaints.

According to locals, frequent call drops, weak signal strength, delayed message delivery, and extremely slow data speeds have disrupted routine communication as well as online activities. They said that even basic voice calls often fail to connect, while mobile internet services fluctuate throughout the day, particularly during peak hours and evenings.

Residents alleged that they have contacted customer care multiple times and registered formal complaints through helpline numbers and online portals, but no visible improvement has been witnessed on the ground. They claimed that service requests are routinely marked as “resolved” without any technical rectification or field inspection.

Several inhabitants also pointed out that the problem has adversely affected students who rely on online classes, competitive exam preparation platforms, and digital study material. Professionals working remotely and small business owners who depend on digital payments, online orders, and real-time communication said unreliable connectivity has caused inconvenience and financial loss.

Locals further stated that subscribers are being charged for high-speed data plans, including 4G and 5G services, yet the actual performance rarely matches advertised standards. Many said they are forced to move to specific spots or higher locations to access stable signals, while others reported switching between different network modes without success.

Residents said the issue has persisted for over a year and appears to have worsened in recent months, raising concerns about inadequate infrastructure, insufficient towers, or technical faults in the network system. They urged the telecom company to conduct an on-site technical assessment, upgrade transmission equipment, and install additional towers if required.

Calling for swift action, locals appealed to the authorities and service provider to address the matter on priority so that people in the area can access reliable communication services essential for education, employment, emergency contact, and daily life.
