Srinagar/ Feb, 22: Army on Sunday said two terrorists were killed in an encounter during a joint counter-terrorism operation in Kishtwar district of Jammu region.
According to officials, the operation — codenamed Operation Trashi-I was launched following specific and credible intelligence inputs gathered from Jammu and Kashmir Police, Intelligence Bureau and the Army’s own sources about the presence of terrorists in the region.
Troops of CIF Delta, White Knight Corps, in coordination with Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), established contact with the militants earlier and re-engaged them at around 11:00 am in difficult and forested terrain.
“During the exchange of fire, two terrorists were neutralised,” officials said, adding that war-like stores, including two AK-47 rifles, were recovered from the site of the encounter.
Security forces have launched a search operation in the area to sanitise the surroundings and rule out the presence of any additional terrorists.
There were no immediate reports of casualties among security personnel. Further details, including the identity and affiliation of the slain terrorists, were awaited.
