Week-long celebrations to commence from March 2

Kathua : Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Rajesh Sharma chaired a meeting to roll out a comprehensive action plan for the celebration of Women Week across the district from March 2 to March 8, 2026 to mark International Women’s Day.
The meeting was attended by ADDC, Surinder Mohan Sharma, CPO, Ranjeet Thakur, PO ICDS, Mohammed Syed, ACD, Akhil Sadotra, DSWO, Varun Chaudhary and other district and sectoral officers. Besides, ADCs and SDMs joined the meeting virtually.
During the meeting, a structured and result-oriented framework of activities was deliberated and finalised to ensure meaningful and impactful observance of the week. The action plan envisages active participation of all line departments, educational institutions and civil society organisations to promote women’s empowerment and gender equality at the grassroots level.
As per the schedule, the week-long celebrations will include cultural performances showcasing the achievements and contributions of women, dedicated sports activities such as Walkathon and Marathon to encourage fitness and participation, legal and safety awareness programmes, cyber security awareness sessions, free medical camps, motivational lectures and felicitation of women achievers from various fields.
Special emphasis will be laid on activities under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiative, with awareness drives, interactive sessions in schools and colleges and outreach programmes to reinforce the importance of girl child education and protection.
The DC stressed the need for coordinated and sustained efforts to ensure that the celebrations go beyond symbolic observance and translate into tangible outcomes. He directed all departments and field functionaries to ensure effective convergence of schemes, extensive outreach in rural and urban areas and maximum community participation.
The DC called for a multi-pronged approach and seamless coordination among departments for successful conduct of the week-long programme. The meeting concluded with directions to finalise the detailed calendar of events and ensure wide publicity across the district.
