Srinagar : Police on Tuesday said that it has arrested three drug peddlers in separate operations in Budgam & Sopore and seized substantial quantities of contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued here on Friday Police said that In Budgam, a police team from Police Station Magam, led by ASI Tariq Ahmad during routine patrols in Batapora, Kanahama apprehended two individuals, Mohammad Shafi Bhat and Ubaid Farooq Bhat, on suspicion of drug-related activities. During search, approximately 1 kg 188 grams of a semi-grinded charas-like substance was found with Mohammad Shafi Bhat, while Ubaid Farooq Bhat was found in possession of 522 grams of a similar substance. Both suspects were arrested. In a separate incident in Sopore, a police party from Police Post Watergam intercepted Jafar Zahoor Mir, who was traveling from Behrampora towards Watergam. A charas-like substance was recovered from him following which he was arrested. Following these actions cases were registered under relevant legal sections at their respective stations and initiated investigations. In its statement Police reiterated its commitment to zero-tolerance policy towards drug trafficking and intelligence-driven operations to protect youth from drug trafficking, appealing therein people to cooperate and share inputs for combating the drug menace.
