“The first Ashra-e-Rahmat (days 1–10 of Ramadan) signifies the opening of divine mercy, inviting believers to pursue spiritual renewal through sincerity and humility.”
Dr. Firdous A Reshi
Ashra-e-Rahmat marks the first ten blessed days of Ramadan, a sacred period in which believers immerse themselves in the boundless mercy of Almighty Allah and prepare their hearts for spiritual renewal. These days are a gentle invitation from the Creator to return to Him with sincerity, humility, and hope. Ramadan itself is a month of immense blessings, but the first Ashra holds a special significance as it symbolizes the opening of divine mercy upon humanity. It is a time when the doors of compassion are wide open, and every act of worship, no matter how small, is multiplied in reward. Fasting during these days is not merely abstaining from food and drink; it is a spiritual discipline that purifies the soul, softens the heart, and strengthens one’s connection with Almighty Allah. Through prayer, recitation of the Qur’an, charity, and acts of kindness, we seek to draw closer to ourGod and experience His infinite Rahmat. Ashra-e-Rahmat teaches us thatAlmighty Allah’s mercy encompasses all things and that no sin is too great to be forgiven when one turns back with genuine repentance. It encourages self-reflection, gratitude, and compassion toward others, reminding us that just as we seek mercy from Almighty Allah, we must also show mercy to His creation. The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) exemplified mercy in every aspect of his life, and Ramadan is the perfect opportunity to revive his Sunnah by helping the needy, feeding the hungry, forgiving those who have wronged us, and spreading peace in our communities.
“Ashra-e-Rahmat is a period of spiritual renewal and divine mercy. By strengthening faith and refining character, believers can purify their souls and mend relationships, ultimately reflecting God’s compassion toward others.”
The first ten days set the tone for the entire month, building a foundation of faith and hope that carries into the days of forgiveness and salvation that follow. Ashra-e-Rahmat is a reminder that Almighty Allah’s love and compassion are greater than our shortcomings and that His mercy is not limited by time or space. When a believer raises his hands in Dua during these sacred days, he does so with the certainty that his God is Most Merciful and Ever-Forgiving. The tranquillity felt in sujood, the tears shed in sincere supplication, and the joy of giving charity are all reflections of divine mercy flowing into the heart. As we embrace Ashra-e-Rahmat, we are called to renew our intentions, strengthen our faith, and transform our character. By doing so, we not only seek Almighty Allah’s mercy for ourselves but also become a source of mercy for others. These days are truly days of divine, mercyan opportunity to cleanse the soul, mend broken relationships, and begin anew under the shade of Almighty Allah’s infinite compassion.
