Awantipora: The Department of Zoology, IUST, convened its first Board of Studies meeting with the objective of reviewing and strengthening the academic curriculum in line with emerging educational reforms and national priorities.
The meeting, chaired by Dr. Farooq Hussain Bhat, Dean of the School of Sciences, focused on significant academic developments within the Department of Zoology. Prof. Mohammad Farooq Mir presented the agenda, which included discussions on the introduction of the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP) in Zoology, aligning with the National Education Policy (NEP). Key points of discussion included the proposed syllabus, course structure, credit framework, and semester-wise distribution. The board emphasized the importance of conceptual clarity, skill development, research exposure, field-based learning, and interdisciplinary integration in the curriculum. Additionally, the introduction of Open Elective Courses was considered to promote interdisciplinary learning and address contemporary issues such as biodiversity conservation, environmental sustainability, and applied Zoology.
