*DSEK,Srinagar |18th February 2026* In a landmark initiative aimed at transforming the academic landscape of the Kashmir Division, the Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK)  has officially declared the year *2026 as the “Year of Academic Excellence.”*
The announcement was made by *Mr. Naseer Ahmad Wani (JKAS), Director School Education Kashmir*, during a high-level review meeting convened at DSEK headquarters in connection with the reopening of schools after the winter vacation.
On the occasion, the Director formally issued a *first-of-its-kind, comprehensive Academic Calendar 2026*, designed to streamline and strengthen academic planning across all government and Private schools in the Kashmir Division.
The Academic Calendar 2026 stands remarkable for its innovative design and comprehensive scope. It aligns closely with the vision and recommendations of the National Education Policy 2020, integrating structured teaching–learning strategies with clearly defined timelines and monitoring mechanisms.
Unlike previous editions, the 2026 Academic Calendar incorporates:
> “Structured timelines for curriculum transaction, assessment practices, co-curricular engagements, and academic monitoring.”
It clearly specifies:
* Advance notification of winter and summer vacations
* Schedule for Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTMs)
* Dates for periodic assessments and annual examinations
* Timelines for declaration of results
* Structured planning for holistic academic activities.
*“Year of Academic Excellence” – Action-Oriented, Not Symbolic*
Emphasizing the seriousness of the initiative, the Director stated:
> “The declaration of 2026 as the ‘Year of Academic Excellence’ is not merely symbolic, but a focused and action-driven commitment to measurable academic outcomes.”
To ensure effective implementation, a robust and vibrant monitoring mechanism has been established at divisional, district and zonal levels.
Field officers have been directed to:
* Closely monitor classroom transactions to ensure quality teaching-learning processes
* Ensure timely conduct of practical examinations and internal assessments
* Monitor regular attendance of students and teachers
* Oversee completion of the admission process within stipulated timelines
* Ensure preparation and strict adherence to proper timetables
* Supervise all allied academic and administrative activities
*Focus on Accountability and Measurable Outcomes*
Reiterating the department’s resolve, the Director emphasized:
> “Academic discipline, structured planning, and continuous supervision will be the key pillars for achieving excellence in 2026.”
Stakeholders-including teachers, Heads of Institutions, field functionaries, parents and students—have been urged to actively participate in this transformative mission.
The Directorate reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to fostering:
> “A culture of accountability, innovation and quality education, ensuring that the ‘Year of Academic Excellence’ translates into tangible improvements in learning outcomes across all government and Private schools of the Kashmir Division.”
