Jammu : The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Tuesday paid high tributes to former Minister Peerzada Ghulam Ahmad Shah and Former MLC Brij Mohan Sharma on their demise.
While reading out the obituary references for the deceased public leaders, Speaker Legislative Assembly, Abdul Rahim Rather termed Peerzada Ghulam Ahmad Shah as an able administrator with distinguished public career, both inside and outside of the Assembly.
He said Peerzada Ghulam Ahmad had many stints as Minister with the former governments headed by former Chief Minister Dr. Farooq Abdullah.
He stated that Peerzada was first elected to the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly from the Devsar Constituency in 1983 and served on several important Committees of the House, including the Public Accounts Committee, Public Undertakings Committee and Committee on Estimates. He was re-elected from the same Constituency in 1987 and again in 1996.
The Speaker said that Peerzada Ghulam Ahmad Shah was a distinguished public figure and a committed Legislator who devoted his life to public service and welfare of the people. He was widely respected for his dedication, integrity and significant contribution towards development of his constituency and the Union Territory as a whole, maintained the Speaker.
During his distinguished public career, Peerzada Ghulam Ahmad Shah held several important positions. He served as Member of the Public Accounts Committee, Member of the State Transport Authority and Member of the Muslim Auqaf Trust.
Paying his tributes to Late Brij Mohan Sharma, Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather said the deceased was humble and disciplined human being and always remained grounded.
Being a member of erstwhile Legislative Council from March 17, 2001, to March 16, 2007, the late leader performed this service purely for the sake of public welfare, without expecting any reward from anyone.
Later, the House observed two minute silence as a mark of respect to the departed souls.
