Baramulla: The Indian Army on Tuesday organized a programme titled “Milatay Aalim” in Baramulla town, bringing together prominent Imams and religious leaders from different areas to deliberate on eradicating social evils and strengthening peace initiatives in the district.
The event was hosted by 46 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and facilitated an interactive session with the 79 Brigade Commander, Brigadier M.B. Singh. The meeting focused on fostering dialogue between security forces and religious leaders to address issues affecting society and to promote communal harmony.
Addressing the gathering, Brigadier M.B. Singh expressed gratitude to the participating clerics and described them as “real agents of change” in society. He emphasized that religious leaders play a vital role in guiding the youth and shaping public opinion, adding that their cooperation is essential to achieve sustained peace, development and prosperity in Baramulla.
The Brigade Commander underscored the importance of collective efforts to counter social evils, including drug abuse, radicalization and other challenges confronting society. He urged participants to continue spreading messages of unity, brotherhood and responsible citizenship through their respective platforms. The programme was moderated by noted social activist Abid Salam, who has been working on de-radicalisation initiatives in the region. He highlighted the need for collaboration between civil society and the security establishment to create a stable and progressive environment in Baramulla and across Kashmir.
Senior Army officers, including Commander 46 RR Colonel Pawan Jaiswal and Major Harish Khan, were present on the occasion. Officers reiterated the Army’s commitment to community outreach and constructive engagement with local stakeholders. Religious leaders from various sects and localities appreciated the initiative and assured full cooperation in promoting peace and social reform. They acknowledged the role of the Army in supporting community development activities and maintaining stability in the region.

Officials said the interaction was part of ongoing outreach efforts aimed at strengthening trust and enhancing coordination between the Army and local communities in Baramulla district.
