Srinagar : Police on Tuesday said that it has arrested five drug peddlers in Baramulla and Sopore and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued here on Tuesday Police said that In Baramulla, a police patrol from Police Post Mirgund intercepted three suspects while moving from Kansoth Colony to Yakhmanpora. The suspects tried to flee but were apprehended following which a substance resembling brown sugar and a digital weighing machine was recovered from their possession. The individuals have been identified as Imran Hussain Malla, Tanveer Ahmad Bhat, and Mohammad Saleem Bhat, all residents of Yakhmanpora. In a separate incident in Sopore, police conducted a naka checking and stopped an auto load carrier with registration number JK05N-3386. Upon searching the vehicle poppy straw, Codeine bottles, digital weighing machines, and cash was seized. The accused in this case have been identified as Tariq Ahmad Dar and Mohammad Shafi Gojree, both residents of nearby areas. All suspects have been arrested and are currently in custody at their respective police stations. Cases have been registered under relevant legal sections, and investigations are on to trace the sources and broader networks involved in these drug-related activities. In its statement Police reiterated its commitment to zero-tolerance policy towards drug trafficking and sustained, intelligence-driven efforts to combat narcotics trade .
