BJP’s Anil Gupta Slams Rahul Gandhi’s “Bharat Mata” Comment, Cites Congress’s History of “Surrender”

Jammu : Senior BJP leader and strategic analyst Brig (Retd) Gupta has launched a blistering attack on Rahul Gandhi following his remarks in Parliament accusing the Modi government of “selling Bharat Mata” to the US. Gupta labeled the statement “hypocritical,” arguing that the Congress party’s own legacy is defined by territorial concessions and strategic failures.
The veteran leader pointed to the 1947 Partition and the subsequent handling of Jammu and Kashmir as the beginning of Congress’s strategic blunders. He argued that Nehru’s decision to rush to the UN for a ceasefire, despite a military advantage, led to the freezing of Pakistani occupation over one-third of the region, including the strategically vital Gilgit-Baltistan.
Gupta also criticized the “Hindi-Chini Bhai-Bhai” era, which he claims left India vulnerable to the 1962 defeat and the permanent loss of 38,000 sq km of territory in Aksai Chin. He noted that even after the war, no significant attempts were made to reclaim the land or prevent Pakistan from illegally ceding a portion of Ladakh to China.
Further indicting the Congress legacy, Gupta mentioned the 1974 decision by Indira Gandhi to cede Katchatheevu Island to Sri Lanka. He stated this move was made without parliamentary approval, resulting in the loss of a potential naval base and hurting the fishing rights of thousands of Tamil Nadu residents.
The critique also covered missed opportunities during wartime victories. Gupta highlighted that despite having 93,000 prisoners of war as bargaining chips in 1971, the Congress leadership failed to secure the strategically important Haji Pir Pass, choosing instead to return captured territories without permanent gains for India.
The BJP veteran contrasted these historical events with the Modi Government’s assertive foreign policy. He cited the Balakot air strikes, the Doklam and Galwan standoffs, and the revocation of Article 370 as evidence of a modern India that protects its borders. He emphasized that current ties with the US are built on mutual benefit in defense and technology rather than compromise.
“Congress divided Bharat Mata; BJP unites and strengthens her. Rahul Gandhi must present facts or own his party’s history of surrenders,” Gupta asserted.
