Leprosy Awareness Campaign: Cultural Unit Jammu stages Nukkad Natak at SMGS Hospital

Jammu : Continuing the activities under the two-week-long Leprosy Awareness Campaign being observed as part of the National Leprosy Eradication Programme (NLEP), the artists of the Cultural Unit, Department of Information & Public Relations (DIPR) Jammu Wednesday staged a Nukkad Natak at Maharaja Gulab Singh (SMGS) Hospital Shalamar Road.
The event was organised by the Zonal Leprosy Office, Directorate of Health Services Jammu, with the objective of informing the public about the symptoms, prevention and free treatment available for leprosy, besides dispelling myths and social stigma associated with the disease.
The Nukkad Natak by Cultural Unit artists effectively communicated key messages on early detection and the importance of timely medical care, attracting the attention of patients, attendants, staff and visitors at the hospital.
While speaking on the occasion, Medical Officer Leprosy, Dr. Deepika Dewan educated the audience regarding leprosy and the treatment available in Government Hospitals. He encouraged people to seek medical consultation without hesitation, if symptoms appear.
Among others present on the occasion included CMO, Dr. Harbaksh Singh, Zonal Leprosy Officer, Dr. Sushma Mattoo, Medical Superintendent SMGS Hospital Jammu, Dr. Dara Singh, Dr. Jahan Ara, Medical Officer, Krishan Kumar, Subash Chander and Ajay Kumar besides officials of Cultural Unit Jammu witnessed the event.
The programme was conducted under the direction of Joint Director Information Jammu, Deepak Dubey and under the supervision of Cultural Officer Jammu, Mohit Sharma.
