New Delhi : President J&K BJP and Member Parliament (Rajya Sabha), Sat Sharma CA, on Tuesday raised urban mobility and rural livelihood generation issues of Jammu & Kashmir during the proceedings of the Rajya Sabha, and sought detailed responses from the concerned Union Ministries.
MP Sharma raised an unstarred question in the House regarding the Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP) for Jammu city, emphasizing the necessity for sustainable and integrated urban transport infrastructure. In response, Union Minister Tokhan Sahu outlined that the CMP serves as a long-term framework aimed at enhancing public transport, alleviating traffic congestion and emissions, improving road safety, and promoting multimodal integration and Transit-Oriented Development. The plan includes a phased implementation strategy, starting with traffic management and bus system enhancements, and progressing towards the establishment of mass rapid transit systems. Additionally, it was announced that 100 buses have been approved for Jammu under the PM eBus Sewa Scheme to bolster urban mobility. In a separate discussion, Sat Sharma addressed the development of Khadi and Village Industries in Jammu & Kashmir, inquiring about the status of clusters, funding, and employment opportunities. Minister of MSME Shobha Karandlaje reported that six clusters are currently being implemented in the region under the SFURTI scheme, covering districts such as Ramban, Doda, Samba, Baramulla, Pulwama, and Srinagar. She noted that ₹501.64 lakh has been allocated and utilized under the Khadi Gramodyog Vikas Yojana over the past three years, leading to significant employment generation, particularly benefiting women and SC/ST artisans.
