Srinagar : Police in Awantiporaon Tuesday said that it has taken cognizance of complaints regarding cheating of local shopkeepers through misuse of QR codes for digital payments.
In a statement issued here on Tuesday Police said that during an investigation under the supervision of SHO Police Station Awantipora, Insp Aijaz Ahmad one Sameer Ahmad Hajam, a resident of Boh, Awantipora, was found involved in defrauding shopkeepers by presenting fake payment confirmations via QR codes to unlawfully obtain money. The said accused was arrested and legal proceedings were initiated against him. Further investigations are underway to determine the full scope of the fraud and whether other individuals are implicated. In its statement Police has appealed shopkeepers and the people to verify the successful credit of payments in their bank accounts before releasing goods, urging them therein to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station for thwarting attempts of cyber and digital fraud.
