Mobile security now a national priority: Director NIT Srinagar
Srinagar : A weeklong Bootcamp on “Mobile Security” (February 9–13, 2026) commenced on Monday at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar.
The bootcamp organized by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at NIT Srinagar, in collaboration with IIT Jammu, is sponsored by the Information Security Education & Awareness (ISEA) Phase III Project of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India. Dr. Mohammad Ahsan Chishti serves as the Convener, with Dr. Shaima Qureshi and Dr. Sparsh Sharma as Coordinators. The inaugural function was led by Prof. Roohie Naaz, Incharge Director and Dean of Research & Consultancy at NIT Srinagar, and attended by various faculty members and participants. The bootcamp aims to equip participants with essential skills to tackle emerging mobile security challenges, addressing the critical need for mobile security in a country with over a billion mobile users. Key topics include secure app development, threat modeling, encryption protocols, and defense mechanisms against various cyber threats. Participants will engage in hands-on laboratory sessions, case studies, and receive expert mentoring from faculty and industry professionals. Dr. Anil Saini from IIT Jammu and Dr. Dhiraj from CSIR-CEERI provided introductory remarks, emphasizing the importance of addressing the rapidly evolving threat landscape in mobile security. They highlighted the need for innovation in cybersecurity and the development of secure technologies to support India’s digital infrastructure. The inaugural day featured expert talks and hands-on sessions, with further activities planned for subsequent days, including discussions on decentralized identity management and cryptography.
